About

Michal Imielski is an Australian–Polish director, writer and composer working across film, theatre, opera, and hybrid performance. His art exists at the intersection of poetic theatre, surreal imagery, and psychological excavation.

Michal trained at NIDA (Directing) and holds a Master's in Critical & Cultural Studies from Macquarie University, where he developed a theoretical framework for "plastic theatre" — a performance language drawing on puppetry, dance, visual composition, and ritual.

He is a recipient of the Bayreuth Opera Award, the Pat Parker Memorial Fellowship, and a Silver Remi from WorldFest Houston for his acclaimed horror feature Dead Sunrise. As Artistic Director of SHH Centre for Hybrid Arts (2010–2019) and SHH Theory (current), he has presented work across Australia, Germany, India, and the U.S.

A former magician with 23 years of professional experience in illusion and stagecraft, Michal brings a distinctive sense of wonder, tension, and theatricality to every project.
